Field of Dreams

Field of dreams is similar to Beowulf because it follows the qualities of an epic. John in Field of Dreams, has a big hubris like Beowulf. John cuts ties with his father because of this. Beowulf’s hubris is that he believes that he can take on anything by himself. They both soon find out that their hubris is their hamartia. Beowulf goes to kill the dragon on his own and dies after the fight. John regrets the day he left his father.

John’s quest helps him make amends with his father. Beowulf has no quest for him, his quest is just to prove his power and strength. Although they have the same hamartia their endings are completely different. Their magical weapon is also different with John having his faith and Beowulf having his giant made sword. These are some of the differences between the two characters.
